Karen JohnsonSite Principal Investigator – Karen C. Johnson, MD MPH | Karen C. Johnson, MD, MPH is the interim Chair of Preventive Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Dr. Johnson is a tenured Professor in the Departments of Preventive Medicine and Medicine at the University of Tennessee.  Dr Johnson is board certified in Preventive Medicine and in Internal Medicine.  She received her MD degree from the UTHSC where she completed her residency in Internal Medicine. She received her MPH degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health where she completed a residency in Clinical Preventive Medicine.  Dr. Johnson has extensive experience in working as the PI in the areas of clinical trials and observational studies.  She is the principal investigator for the NIH funded Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study, and under her leadership the study was able to successfully recruit over 4200 women in the Memphis area.  Dr. Johnson is also currently the PI of three other NIH-funded studies TARGIT, Look AHEAD, and SPRINT and is a Co-investigator for the Fit Blue study. During her work at the UTHSC, Dr. Johnson has successfully obtained over $40,000,000 in NIH grant funds. Dr. Johnson has also served as a University of Tennessee Board of Trustee member and as president of the Faculty Senate.

 Site Research Coordinator – Lisa C. Jones, RN | Lisa Jones is a registered nurse that has been employed at the University of Tennessee in the Department of Preventive Medicine for the past 20 years. She has been in the role of Research Nurse Coordinator for several large NIH studies, including the DCCT (Diabetes and Complications Trial),  LookAHEAD ( Action for Health and Diabetes), WHI (Women’s Health Initiative) and SPRINT (Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial). In her spare time, Lisa enjoys going to craft fairs and flea markets, movies, and spending time with friends.
